  • easy to remove from the model
Moulded lion's head

ELASTOSIL® M mould-making compounds from WACKER are room-temperature-vulcanizing silicone rubbers characterized by excellent reproduction accuracy. Thanks to their high elasticity and excellent release properties, vulcanizates made of ELASTOSIL® M are particularly easy to remove from the model. Depending on the curing system, ELASTOSIL® M mould-making compounds fall into two groups: condensation-curing silicones, which vulcanize with atmospheric moisture after a hardener is added, and addition-curing silicones, which vulcanize after a platinum catalyst is added.

RTV-2 condensation-curing

With condensation curing , component B (hardener) is added at a ratio of 2% to 5% of the corresponding component A. Curing releases a volatile alcohol compound as a by-product, which causes slight volume shrinkage.

Important: accelerating the cure by raising the temperature is not recommended. The vulcanizate may only be exposed to heat once the by-product has completely evaporated.

Advantages:
– No cure inhibition
– The vulcanization rate can be adjusted within a certain range by varying the amount of hardener or choosing a slow or fast hardener
– Excellent reproduction accuracy and outstanding release properties

RTV-2 addition-curing

For addition curing , a platinum-containing catalyst complex is required. Without releasing any by-product, it controls shrink-free vulcanization – contained in component A or B depending on the product. After processing, the curing rate can be accelerated considerably by applying heat.

Advantages:
– Reaction can be accelerated by raising the temperature
– Irreversible curing
– No weight loss during curing
– Sehr geringe Schrumpfungsrate (< 0,1 %)
– No release of by-products
– Excellent reproduction accuracy and outstanding release properties
